Google Business Profile.

Also called: GBP, Google My Business, GMB

Your Google Business Profile is the panel that shows your hours, photos, reviews, phone number, and a map pin when someone Googles your business or searches your category nearby. It used to be called Google My Business. It is free, and it is the single highest-traffic asset most local businesses own, often outpacing the website for calls and direction requests.

The catch: most owners claim it, fill in half the fields, and never touch it again. Google reads that inactivity as a weak signal. A complete, active profile, with the right primary category, real photos added regularly, and reviews answered, is what earns the Map Pack slots.

Because it lives on Google and not on your site, it needs its own attention. A great website does not fix a neglected profile, and a great profile does not replace a website that closes the sale.

A plain example

The box that appears on the right side of Google when you search a business by name, with photos, hours, reviews, and a "Directions" button, is that business’s Google Business Profile.

Why this glossary exists. Most agencies use these terms to sound technical and keep you dependent. We define them plainly because an owner who understands the work makes better decisions, and asks sharper questions on the call. Ask one directly.
